Joint Workshops about Controlling & Controllers

  • Introduction to Microcontrollers for the Faint of Heart: (Amnon Dekel) Ubiquitous Computing, Pervasive Computing, Tangible Media, ... all these have been at the forefront of the "future" of computing for about a decade now. Already today 98% of all CPU's maufactured find their way into everyday objects and NOT into the "Computers" we use. This workshop will enable those who have not had the time to look into this area to gain a basic understanding of the parts that make up such systems, how we develop on them, and what we can use them for. If enough sign up we will run a hands on workshop in which you will sense the world, write code (in BASIC!), run it on a microcontroller, and see how it reacts to changes in its environemt.   • Sensing and controlling the outside world with your PC (Zvika Netter) - Reach out beyond your computer screens to interact with the environment like never before. Attaching through a USB port and giving any user complete access to receiving and sending data with all common electronic components. Will demo live sensing of temp, light, pressure etc. also controlling step-motors & servo motors and maybe show some RFID demos.]

  • Challenging the Metaphor – a Live Experiment in Parallel Computing: (Guy Vardi) We will have a live benchmark of various strategies to solve Dijkstra’s Chinese philosophers’ deadlock problem.   • LinkedIn - Advanced LinkedIn (for experienced linkedin users) sharing of tricks / Tips for using LinkedIn / success stories etc
  • reflexive web page (by dani vardi). this workshop is intended for nerds only. we will try to code an html file that outputs its own source code (whithout openning the source file). since im not fluent in html, this may be impossible, and may require the use of javascript. homework for participants: write such a program in your native language (c, c++, java, asm, cobol, fortran, etc. please no c# or vb) in a single file. we will compare code and discuss how elegant is each method. (participants: Dvir Volk (HTML/PHP))
